Housewife in Beverly Hills
Photographed by Mariann Vik Johansen
In the summer of 2014, fashion photographer Mariann Vik Johansen collaborated with rising “It-girl” Sam Blacky on a series of editorial shoots across Los Angeles.
The resulting collection, titled Housewife in Beverly Hills, was captured in an iconic mansion nestled in the heart of Beverly Hills. Through a playful and exaggerated lens, Sam Blacky embodies the archetype of the idle housewife — a woman with endless time and no obligation to work. The imagery explores themes of luxury, detachment, and whimsical self-indulgence, all underscored by a vibrant and stylized aesthetic.
Sam Blacky is known for her infectious laugh, magnetic personality, and international presence as a DJ — notably for tracks like Throw Some Ass Remix with Sofi Tukker. With over 500,000 followers on Instagram, she lives a dynamic life on tour, working as both a model and creative force.
This series blurs the line between satire and aspiration, posing subtle questions about identity, leisure, and the curated lives we present to the world.
